三十三間堂毎年恒例『通し矢』

京都の三十三間堂では毎年恒例の『通し矢』が行われました。始まりは江戸時代三十三間堂の軒下で矢を放って競ったのが始まりです。成人による通し矢は昭和26年から行われています。少し肌寒い朝を迎えた三十三間堂では約120メートルある本堂の裏に的場が設置され、60メートル先の的に矢を放った。華やかな振袖、はかまを身に新成人、約1700人が弓矢の腕を競った。当日は本堂、境内が無料開放されている。

The annual tradition of “Toshiya,” or continuous archery, took place at Sanjusangendo in Kyoto. Its origins date back to the Edo period, where archers competed by shooting arrows under the eaves of the Sanjusangendo hall. The tradition of adult Toshiya has been observed since 1951. On a slightly chilly morning at Sanjusangendo, a target range was set up in the main hall, spanning approximately 120 meters. Adorned in vibrant furisode kimono and hakama, about 1700 newly minted adults tested their archery skills by shooting arrows towards a target 60 meters away. On the event day, both the main hall and the precinct were open to the public for free.
